North Shore Landing
Greensboro, GA

Relaxing day today. Started out with a walk down to the lake. Bit cold, 38*F or so with a bit of a wind especially down at the lake.
Then trip to town to look at the Old Gaol. A two story jail built in 1807. Built as the Greene County Superior Court recommended that they build a "substantial" jail. Built of granite with walls two feet thick. Think they succeeded. Used for about 100 years. The cells were veritable dungeons without light or ventilation. This was the era of death by hanging. There was a trap door on the second floor through which the prisoner was launched into eternity.

We then made a trip to Scull Shoals about 13 miles north of Greensboro. Ancient indian tribes originally occupied this area before the Spanish came in and introduced European diseases which wiped most of them out. The area then became a town with grist mill, then cotton mill then a power station. As can be seen now, it is not just a historic site with few remaining buildings.
